Oldest Resident of
Whitehall, Is Dead
WHITEHALL—(Special.) — Mrs. David Wood, age 92, Whitehall’s oldest resident passed away at her home here Wednesday afternoon following a week’s illness of pneumonia. Mrs. Wood has been exceedingly active and a week ago Thursday she attended the funeral of her grandson, Ernest Wood, of Didsbury, Canada, who was buried at Whitehall. She was taken ill the following day.
Mrs. Wood was born in the east, a descendant of a New England family, in September 1828 and came to Whitehall In 1856 with her parents, Lincoln and Maria Sherwood Parsons, from Jefferson county. On March 17, 1863 she was married to David Wood and they were occupied in the farming profession in Lincoln township for 50 years, retiring to Whitehall in March, 1913. Mr. Wood served as a member of the Trempealeau county board for 25 years. He passed away about five years ago.
Mrs. Wood is survived by two sons, James and Ralph, both of Whitehall, two daughters and a son having preceded her in death. Mrs. Wood resided in the home of her son, Ralph, but had her own housekeeping rooms and did all of her own work up until her last illness. Funeral arrangements are incomplete. Mrs. Wood is the grandmother of Miss Elsie Wood, who has been admitted to the bar and is affiliated with the law firm of Bundy, Beach, and Holland at Eau Claire.
