HARRY E. GETTS IS CALLED BY DEATH
Retired Merchant Expires at Home of
His Daughter After a Long Illness
After having been in poor health for the past seven years Harry E. Getts, a retired merchant and a wellknown resident of western Wisconsin, died Saturday evening at the home of his daughter, Mrs. A. F. Reitzel, 327 South Tenth street, aged 69 years. Although he had been suffering from Bright’s disease and heart trouble for a number of years, he was not confined to his bed until two weeks ago.
Deceased was born in Philadelphia in 1842 and came to Wisconsin in 1855, settling at Janesville. From there the family removed to Juneau county and thence to La Crosse. In 1869 Mr. Getts engaged in business with J. B. Canterbury in North La Crosse, where for several years they conducted a grocery and feed store. In 1875 deceased moved to Whitehall, where he engaged in grain buying and ran a general store. He also acquired interests at Eleva. About 14 years ago he moved back to La Crosse and for several years, before the fire, conducted the shoe department in the Park Store.
Mr. Getts was united in marriage in North La Crosse to Miss Emma Lambert. He is survived by a widow and three children, E. C. Getts of Chippewa Falls, Ernst Getts of St. Paul and Mrs. A. F. Reitzel of La Crosse. Mr. and Mrs. Getts had made their home with the Reitzels for years.
The funeral will be held Tuesday at 2:30 from the Reitzel home. Rev. Louis Magin officiating and the services will be conducted under the auspices of the Masons, of which deceased was for many years a member.
