L. L. Solsrud, Whitehall, Dies
Whitehall, Wis.—(Special)—Ludwig L. Solsrud, 81, prominent Whitehall retired mercantile dealer, died at his home here at 9 a.m. today after a week of illness. He had been in poor health for several years.
Funeral arrangements are being completed. Services will be held at the Our Saviour’s Lutheran church here, the Rev. O. G. Birkeland officiating. Burial will be in Lincoln cemetery.
Born in Christiania, Norway, September 24, 1854, Mr. Solsrud came to the United States in 1883, settling at Spring Valley, Minn. He moved to Whitehall in September, 1885. He went into the mercantile business here with his uncle, L. L, Solsrud, in 1895.
The firm was incorporated as Solsrud-Kidder & Company until 1899, when E. J. Kidder retired. The firm operated under the name of Solsrud & Solsrud until 1901, when the Solsrud Mercantile Company was originated.
Mr. Solsrud retired in 1937, selling out to the Farmers Store Company. The Solsrud firm had operated the business in the same building since 1885.
Mr. Solsrud was president of the Peoples State bank from the time it was organized in 1912 until it closed in 1932. He was a member of the Blue lodge, chapter, commandery, consistory and Shrine of the Masonic order and had held at various times all offices in the I. O. O. F. lodge.
He was prominent in civic circles, being a member of the village council for eight years. He served as treasurer of Our Saviour’s Lutheran church for many years.
He married Lena Larson of Whitehall, June 9, 1897. Survivors are his wife; four children, Mrs. H. M. (Louise) Johnson, Whitehall; Mrs. G. N. (Alice) Pederson, Kenosha, Wis.; Mrs. Paul (Dorothy) Steen, Blountsville, Ind., and Donald Solsrud, Milwaukee, and eight grandchildren.
