John M. Ingalls, of Whitehall, Dies
WHITEHALL, Wis. (Special) John M. Ingalls, 87, oldest resident of Trempealeau county in years or residence, died at his home in Whitehall, Thursday morning, Jan. 14 (1943), after a few days illness.
Mr. Ingalls was born at Rock Prairie near Janesville in Walworth county June 10, 1855. When John was 10 months the family came to Trempealeau county by covered wagon, his brother, F. W. Ingalls also being in the party. When the town of Lincoln was set off, Moses Ingalls became the first chairman.
Fifty-eight years ago Mr. Ingalls married Carrie Gage, and they made their home on Ingalls homestead which John took over when his father became too old to operate it. They moved to Whitehall 35 years ago.
Three daughters survive, Mrs. J. E. Rhode, and Mrs. Anton Vold of Whitehall and Mrs. Gus Saecker of La Crosse. Mrs. Ingalls died in 1933. He is also survived by four grandchildren; one great-grandchild and one sister, Mrs. Ella Romander, who resided with him.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Jan. 18, at the Rhode Chapel at 1:30 and at the Methodist church at 2 o'clock, the Rev. N. V. Brink officiating. Burial will be in Lincoln cemetery.
