BERLIN - Dr. H. C. Koch. 78, 145 E. Moore St., died Friday at Berlin Memorial Hospital after a long illness. Dr. Koch was born on a farm near Harvard, Ill., on Jan. 13, 1894. He attended school in Sharon. Wis., and graduated from there in 1912. He received his M.D., degree from the University of Illinois in 1916. and interned at City Hospital in Indianapolis, Ind.
Following his internship, Dr. Koch worked briefly as a physician in a Chicago steel mill before enlisting in the U.S. Army Medical Corps. He served in France from 1918 to 1919. He was married in 1919 to Iolyn Chester of Sharon. After another year in industrial medicine at Janesville, he became affiliated with the Whitehall Clinic and practiced medicine first in Taylor, then in Whitehall from 1920 to 1936. In 1936. the family moved to Berlin. Dr. Koch retired from medical practice in 1964.
Dr. Koch belonged to the Masons, the Odd Fellows and the American Legion. He was a life member of the County Medical Society and a 50 year honor member of the State Medical Society.
He is survived by his widow, lolyn; one son, Dr. John Koch of Berlin, and one daughter. Mrs. Betty Erwin of Seattle, Wash.; two sisters, Mrs. Clara Bailey of Los Angeles, Calif., and Mrs. Sarah Jannes of Beloit; one brother, Adam Koch of Beloit; 14 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Boyd Funeral Home with burial in Oakwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Boyd Funeral Home.
