WHITEHALL, Wis. (Special)— F. O. (Otto) Bitter, 56, was found dead in his bed Tuesday at 5:45 a.m. by his wife, who went to awaken him. He had suffered from a heart condition last fall, but apparently had recovered and was leading a normal life.
He was born July 10, 1897, in Eau Claire, son of Mr. and Mrs. August Bitter. A Navy veteran of World War I, he came to Whitehall in 1920 to pitch with the Whitehall baseball team. He was married March 2, 1925, to Olive Hammerstad of Whitehall.
Bitter was a plumber by trade but during recent years he had operated a tavern in partnership with Douglas Mason.
Survivors include his wife, one sister, Mrs. Carl Handt of Eau Claire; four brothers, August of Eau Claire, Richard of Alma Center, Willard of Riverside, Calif., and Fred of Bremerton, Wash. He was preceded in death by a sister, Clara.
He was a 32nd degree Mason and member of the consistory, Shrine and American Legion.
