Mrs. H. Beach of Whitehall Dies at 89
WHITEHALL, Wis. (Special)- Mrs. Hattie Beach, who hved in Whitehall 85 years and who was one of the city’s most prominent citizens, died Thursday afternoon in a local hospital.
Mrs. Beach, 89, was a former member of the board of directors of the Melby Bank and in her earlier life assisted her husband publish the Whitehall Times. Her husband, Joseph Beach, published the Times from 1880 to 1915.
The former Hattie Olds was born March 3. 1869, in the Town of Pigeon, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George H. Olds. Olds was Whitehall’s first postmaster.
She moved to Whitehall with her parents when she was four and had lived there ever since. She had lived in the same house the past 68 years.
Mrs. Beach received a hip injury in a fall on Sept. 14 and had been hospitalized ever since.
She is survived by one son, George Beach, Dallas, Tex.; one daughter, Mrs. Florence Long, Frankfort, Ind.; and four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Whitehall Methodist Church, the Rev. Fletcher Bennett of Superior officiating, assisted by the Rev. Marshall Kamerud, Whitehall Methodist pastor. Friends were asked to call at the Johnson Funeral Home Friday afternoon and evening. Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her husband and one son. Joseph.
